Is it OK for women to vote? At one time, the US population didn’t think so.
Is it OK to own slaves? At one time, it certainly was OK in the USA and other countries.
Is it OK for people of different races to marry? It wasn’t until the late 1960’s that the USA Supreme Court said it was OK.
Is it OK for Black people to ride on public buses, to drink from the same water fountains, to use the same public restrooms, and to go to the same schools as whites?
Is it OK for women to drive in public? In Saudia Arabia it’s not.
Is it OK for women to appear in public without a man who is either her husband or other relative? In Saudia Arabia it’s not.
Now then, about your refusal to let your kids determine their own values and beliefs, it’s always been my belief that it is far more important to teach children to value diversity in all things: religion, language, culture, philosophy, dress, style, music, politics, etc., that they learn how to THINK for themselves rather than being little carbon copies of the previous generation. Rather than trying to block kids off from the multitude of options that are available out there, I would want them to see, to know, and to understand what all is available to them in this very rich and vibrant world.
But I guess that is where you and I differ. _______________________
EDIT: You added, “A lot of the things the Bible says are outrageous, but it still says gay is wrong.”
I assume that you are referring to at least some of these following things as being outrageous…
The bible says that it’s OK for you sell your daughter (Exodus 21:7)
Owning slaves, both male and female, seems to be OK (Leviticus 25:44), PROVIDED THAT they are heathens purchased from neighboring nations.
The bible says that if your children are stubborn, rebellious and curse you, they should be killed. (Exodus 21:17 and Leviticus 20:9 and Deuteronomy 21:18-21).
The bible says that you should not grow two different crops together side by side. (Leviticus 19:19) so I would assume that when you plant a garden of lettuce, tomatoes and radishes, that would be wrong? Or is this one of the “outrageous” parts?
The bible says that you should not dress by mixing different fabrics together, such as cotton and silk. (Leviticus 19:19
The bible says that women are impure after their monthly periods and must go through ceremonial cleansing. (Leviticus 15:19-24).
The bible says that if people commit adultery, they shall both be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10)
The bible says that if a woman is discovered not to be a virgin on her wedding night, then she is to be stoned (Deuteronomy 22:20-21
The bible says that it’s a sin to touch the skin of a dead pig, (Leviticus 11:7) Other animals that are “unclean” are cats, turtles, and rabbits. (Leviticus 11:11)
The bible says that if you do not honor the Sabbath then you should be put to death. (Exodus 31:14 and 35:2). And by the way, “Sabbath” means Saturday, not Sunday. Sunda??y is the Lord’s Day (for Christians), but the Sabbath is still the Sabbath, so which one is acceptable?
The bible says that it’s not OK to eat meat with milk (such as a cheeseburger). It’s also not OK to eat pork, snails, shark, shrimp, lobster and catfish. (Leviticus 11:11).
So I’m curious…
If you get to cherry-pick ‘n choose which of these parts are “right” and which ones are “outrageous,” how come other people (like we gay people) can’t do the same
